By the way, I thought I'd share with you a "home run" I finally hit on a Christmas present this year. See, my family loves to eat popcorn and watch movies at home, so we were going through the microwave Boy Scout popcorn pretty quickly. We decided to switch to a microwave popcorn bowl by Nordic Ware. It let us pop the bulk kernels in the microwave.
Problem was, it left so many kernels unpopped. (Unless we set it for more time...then we burned the popped ones!) Not such a big deal...and still a great improvement over bagged pop but I started thinking about one of the retro "home movie" theater poppers.
We got a Costco membership in November and wouldn't you know it...they had this gem at the front entrance! And to top it off, it was on special for $50. Suffice it to say, we've put this baby through the paces in the last month and a half and we LOVE it! It doesn't pop a very large batch at a time, but it only takes about 3 minutes, so it's so easy to reload and pop more.

I saw those I wondered if they worked good. My problem would be storing it. Nothing like a bowl of freshly popped corn.
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous!! When I worked at a movie store we had a bigger version of that and I LOVED it!! My honey and I always buy the Movie Theater style popcorn cause it's so good!! But now we might have to go see if our local costco has one of these!
ReplyDeleteI am so JEALOUS!! We love popcorn!! Maybe I'll have to drag my honey to our Costco to see if we can pick one up!
ReplyDeleteThat is SOOOOO cool and it sounds like you got a great deal on it! Mmmmmmmmm....HOT POPCORN! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your popper. I didn't know Costco had them, probably not in Canada though. We got one for Christmas as well, I don't think one day has gone by that my DD hasn't run that thing. Try the pre-made popcorn packs you can order on-line. They are the best!!!! Gina
ReplyDeleteI don't really care for popcorn (the hulls get stuck in the back of my throat), but I want one of those just because it looks so cool. Nice find :)
ReplyDeleteJen, Paul bought a Presto Microwave Pop Corn Popper and he loves it. He says most of the kernals pop. But your's is sooooo cute!

My son gave me a hand crank popcorn maker that had been on my get list for a couple of years - I have a hot air popper (about 20yr old)which I liked but in the fall at the fairs tried kettle corn well brought back memories. The hand crank was available at Lee Valley here so he got it for me and work well on the gas stove and is faster than the hot air one.
ReplyDeleteYour popper look like it would be so much fun and not too big and with kids - they must think they are at the movies at home - enjoy
oh at our Bulk barn I got jumbo corn - really pops big and is so good
